TITLE: A Collision Free Protocol for Local Area Networks AUTHORS: Nikitas J. Dimopoulos, E. C. W. Wong IN: Computer Communications. vol. 11 no. 4, August 1988, pp. 208-214. ABSTRACT This paper defines a new Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA) protocol, where the activities of channel contention and packet transmission occur concurrently. This is achieved through the introdaction of a contention channel which is independent of the main transmission channel. The new protocol is proven correct, in the sense that it guarantees collision-free transmission of packets. Its performance is also evaluated and compared with that of a CSMA/CD protocol.
